Anurag Kashyap & Vikramaditya Motwane’s directorial series creates one hell of Halahala, a poison created from the seas of Gods and Demons. Sacred Games is intriguingly poisonous, in terms of its terrific cliffhanger writing, deft direction and powerful performances. It draws brutal metaphors from the stories of Ashwatthama, Atapi Vatapi, Yayati, etc. and absorbing infectious, a perfect weekend binge- watching.
The Netflix Series raises the bar high with its definitive and pulpy crime content – based on Vikram Chandra’s novel. Writers Varun Grover, Smita Singh & Vasant Nath promisingly write a definitive thriller which is all absorbing with major takeaways in terms of its characters and cliffhanger writing. While engulfing politics and religion, it unravels slowly without being too explosive – it boldly comments on the religious “faith” and uses it as a brutal weapon, unravelling Mumbai and communalism.
This is Saif Ali Khan’s maverick performance till date, completely determined and toned-down speaking volumes through eyes. Nawazuddin Siddiqui dwelling in his gangster zone is overpoweringly lethal, owe it to his character writing and menacing act. And then there’s a range of diverse actors adding impeccable support, compelling Radhika Apte, intimidating Neeraj Kabi, perfectly blended Jitendra Joshi and bold Rajshri Deshpande.
And Alokananda Dasgupta’s heart-pounding as well as thrilling score anxiously accelerates the narrative – just can’t get over the Theme.
Anurag Kashyap & Vikramaditya Motwane have created a classic neo-noir series with chaotic subtexts mend with a structured and absorbing narrative.
