RX 100: now a star-kid launch vehicle

“Baby brother, I wish you nothing but the best. All the love and success, but most importantly, every bit of happiness, patience and never ending faith. I’ll always be your biggest cheerleader, forever & ever. May you shine so so bright, my Junior. Keep it real! #AhanShetty,” wrote Athiya Shetty on Twitter. Ahan Shetty, son of Suniel Shetty would be debuting with the Hindi-remake of RX 100, a Telugu hit released few months backWhile Athiya Shetty was launched by Salman Khan in revamp version of Subhash Ghai’s Hero, Sajid Nadiadwala has acquired the remake rights of RX 100 for the grand launch of Ahan.

Co-incidentally, RX 100 was Karthikeya Gummakonda’s debut, with whom Ahan shares a chunk of similar look. In an other case, the Telugu blockbuster Arjun Reddy (2017) starring Vijay Devarakonda is being remade by the original director Sandeep Vanga Reddy with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani as the leads. Let’s look back at RX 100 which is available on Amazon Prime Video India:

Without any inhibitions, director Ajay Bhupathi boldly presents lust in RX 100 (2018) with a rare female protagonist in Telugu Cinema. And the strength lies in presenting unconventional love story and deliverance with utter conviction. Cinematographer Raam mounts a gritty landscape, the way he captivates rawness and boldness leaves you wanting for more. With a handful at-par scenes, Ajay Bhupathi manages to set the bar high especially with song picturisation.

Indhu (Payal Rajput) initiates a roaring love affair with Shiva (Karthikeya). In a tricky situation, she gets married to another guy leaving Shiva frustrated. RX 100 begins as a refreshing attempt in the mainstream arena but gets stretched way too over-the-top, and at times, amateurish. While it ends up on a clumsy note, it manages to create a withstanding interest for the twist revelation. “My love is like the tide in the sea, which never stops.” exclaims Shiva, the ultimate manifestation of RX 100 stops with its unconventional subject matter. But, then it’s also a misogyny, if such matter doesn’t receive a breathing space or perhaps a mutual understanding.

We now look forward how RX 100 is being utilised as a convenient star-kid launch vehicle. Meanwhile, gaze through the rustic look of the Telugu film.
